Outdoor Living – Creating the Perfect Space and Deciding What Door Suits You

Many of our clients come to us with a  desire to create the perfect indoor/outdoor living space and one of the most important discussions we have with these prospective clients is about their choice of door. When it comes to creating an indoor/outdoor living space, the right type of door can make all the difference. Two of the most popular door options for creating the perfect space are bifold doors and sliding doors. Each has benefits nad disadvantages and we want to discuss this further below.

Bifold doors are made up of several panels that fold together to open up a large area. One of the biggest advantages of using bifold doors when creating your indoor/outdoor sanctuary is that these doors allow for maximum opening space. When fully open, bifold doors can create a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living, providing a wide-open view and plenty of natural light. They are also a great option for small spaces, as they can be folded back against the wall when not in use, saving valuable floor space.

However, bifold doors do have some downsides to consider. For one, they can be quite expensive, especially when compared to sliding doors. Additionally, they can be difficult to operate, especially for older or disabled individuals. And lastly, they can be quite heavy and difficult to move, which may make them a less appealing option for some homeowners.

Sliding doors, on the other hand, are made up of two or more panels that slide past each other to open and close. One of the biggest advantages  of sliding doors is that they are relatively inexpensive compared to bifold doors. They are also generally easier to operate, making them a great option for older or disabled individuals.

However, sliding doors do have some downsides to consider. For one, they do not allow for as much opening space as bifold doors. Additionally, they can be less secure than bifold doors and may not provide as good of an airtight seal. And lastly, they can be quite difficult to clean, especially if they are installed in a high-traffic area meaning they often get covered in fingerprints.

As you’ve now seen, both bifold and sliding doors have their own unique set of pros and cons. The right choice for your home is a personal one. It will depend on your specific needs and preferences. If you want a door that provides maximum opening space and allows for a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living, bifold doors might be the best choice for you. However, if you are looking for an affordable and easy-to-operate option, sliding doors might be a better fit.
